About the event

Yoga Retreat in Sri Lanka

A week of Yoga, tropical surroundings and inner peace

March 22–28, 2027

What awaits you:

  • A week of yoga in the tropical surroundings of Sri Lanka's beautiful south coast

  • Morning and evening yoga with Helene and Line from Tid for Yoga

  • A stay at Roots Retreat, a peaceful retreat centre surrounded by tropical gardens and nature

  • Nourishing meals made with fresh, local ingredients

  • Time for rest, the beach, the pool and optional massages

  • The chance to make the retreat part of a longer holiday in Sri Lanka

Imagine starting your day with yoga surrounded by tropical nature. Birdsong in the background, warm air on your skin and time to move and breathe at your own pace.

The rest of the day is yours. Swim in the sea, read beneath the palm trees, enjoy an Ayurvedic massage or simply settle beside the pool. In the evening, we come together again for gentle practice, good food and time with one another.

During the Easter holidays in 2027, Helene and Line invite you to join them in Sri Lanka for Tid for Yoga's very first retreat.

Last year, Helene, yoga teacher and owner of Tid for Yoga, went looking for a place that brought together the things she loves: sunshine, rest, yoga, swimming, good food and a warm welcome. Somewhere with a little luxury that still felt within reach.

That's where she found Roots Retreat. A place with a calm atmosphere, thoughtful hosts and room to spend time together. From that visit, the idea for this retreat began to take shape.

Now Helene and Line can't wait to share it with you.

Your home for the week – Roots Retreat

Roots Retreat is a small, personal retreat centre in Unawatuna, Sri Lanka. It's run by a welcoming Polish family who live and work there, and Helene has experienced their hospitality first-hand. You can feel the care they've put into the place, from the garden to the spaces where guests come together.

Their values are also close to our own. They support local women through employment, care for the environment and place importance on calm, wellbeing and appreciation for one another.

The retreat's buildings sit among lush tropical gardens, creating a peaceful setting for yoga, rest and shared moments.

You can explore the retreat at: https://roots-retreat.com

At Roots, you´ll find:

  • A beautiful, open-air yoga studio surrounded by nature

  • Spacious terraces and lounge areas

We'll adapt the programme and yoga sessions to the group's wishes and needs as the week unfolds.

A little time to explore

If you'd like to see more of Sri Lanka, you can choose from a range of activities and excursions in the area:

  • A tea plantation visit and Ceylon tea tasting

  • Guided visits to spice gardens

Fresh food, shared together

Food is an important part of the experience at Roots. There is something lovely about sitting down together after yoga, sharing a meal and taking your time.

The kitchen combines Sri Lankan and international flavours, with fresh, nourishing ingredients at the heart of each meal.

You'll find ingredients such as:

  • Fresh coconut milk made daily

  • Local fruit and vegetables

  • Organic herbs and spices

  • Homemade granola and nut butter

  • Natural sweeteners such as kithul syrup

Most meals are plant-based, with local eggs and seafood also used.

If you have any allergies or dietary requirements, let us know so these can be accommodated.

Somewhere comfortable to return to

Each room at Roots has its own individual design and a little touch of luxury. You'll have:

  • A private bathroom

  • Air conditioning and a ceiling fan

  • Comfortable beds

  • A private terrace or access to the garden

Rooms vary in size and can be shared by two or three people.

Could this be your kind of week?

Perhaps you're craving a break from everyday life and time to feel more at ease. A little sunshine, warm air and somewhere you can slow down.

This retreat is for you if you'd like to:

  • Take a pause and make time for yourself

  • Spend time in nature and warm surroundings

  • Deepen your yoga practice at a gentle pace

  • Explore balance, presence and inspiration

  • Combine yoga with a holiday and new experiences

You don't need any previous yoga experience. Every class will be adapted to the group, and beginners and experienced practitioners are equally welcome.

Families and children are welcome too. Roots is a lovely setting for combining yoga with family time and exploring Sri Lanka together.

Stay a little longer

The retreat takes place during the Easter holidays, so you might like to make a longer holiday of it.

Come a few days early, stay for another week afterwards or travel on to discover a different part of the country.

Sri Lanka has beautiful beaches, tea plantations, wildlife and historic towns to explore. Food, transport and activities can be affordable, so extending your stay may give you time to see more without adding too much to the overall cost, depending on your plans.

Your teachers, Helene & Line

Helene and Lineteach together at Tid for Yoga and have recently led a 200-hour yoga teacher training together. They're looking forward to this new experience and to sharing the yoga they love with you.

The week will include Yin, dynamic Yang and Restorative yoga, as well as meditation, pranayama (breathing practices), therapeutic yoga with massage balls and yoga with gentle hands-on support.

Both teach from the heart. They pay attention to how the group is feeling and adapt each session to what is needed in the moment.

Classes are suitable for beginners and experienced practitioners, and every session is optional. You're free to choose the balance of practice and rest that feels right for you.

Helene and Line will be with you throughout the retreat, offering guidance and support during your stay.

Getting to Sri Lanka

The simplest route is to fly to Colombo's Bandaranaike International Airport.

Depending on the available schedules, flights from Norway often include one stop in cities such as Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Istanbul or Helsinki. The total journey usually takes around 13–16 hours, depending on the route and connection.

From Colombo, you can continue to Roots Retreat by car or taxi. We'll share suggested flights closer to the retreat, so those who wish to can coordinate their arrival times and possibly share a transfer.

Getting from the airport to Roots

Roots Retreat is on Sri Lanka's south coast, near Koggala and Galle. The drive from the airport usually takes around 2.5–3 hours.

If several participants arrive at a similar time, we can help organise a shared transfer. Airport transfers are not included in the retreat price.

Finding your flights

When looking for flights, you can:

  • Compare prices on Momondo or Skyscanner

  • Start looking a few months ahead

  • Compare departures from Oslo, Bergen or Copenhagen

You can also compare available routes with Etihad, Finnair and Emirates, taking into account the connection times, fares and overall journey.

We'd love to share this week with you

We're looking forward to the yoga, the shared meals and all the little moments in between.

You're welcome exactly as you are, with whatever energy you bring. If there's anything you'd like to ask before booking, please get in touch.

With love,

Helene and Line 💛
