INFO

About the course:

In this course you will get a chance to familiarize yourself with the principles and postures of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.

You will get to know the foundational poses in the Ashtanga first series: standing sequence, a good part of the seated poses, and finishing sequence. You will also learn the basic principles of Ashtanga yoga.

The course will suit you if you are either new to yoga or new to Ashtanga yoga, or if you want to return to Ashtanga yoga after a longer break.  This course will help you develop a simple home practice, and you will become comfortable with attending Mysore-style classes (what this is will be explained). We also plan to continue offering led Ashtanga classes after the course if requested.  While Ashtanga is physically demanding, we will finish each class with a thorough relaxation, and there will be ample opportunities to ask questions.

The course will be on four wednesdays from 17:30 - 18:45:

About the teacher:

Apart from working as a professor in comparative politics at the university of Bergen, Georg Picot has practiced yoga for over 15 years. He has studied yoga in various places around Europe and the US and practiced with many different teachers. Georg explored different styles of postural yoga, but was always drawn back to Ashtanga. He has made an attendence at several workshops and retreats with, among others, David Swenson, David Williams, Petri Räisänen, and Alexander Medin. His long-term teacher is Manu Rossi (authorized level 2 by KPJAYI).  In 2018 Georg completed a one-week teacher training with David Swenson, and is currently attending the ashtanga yoga teacher training with Alexander Medin.

Ashtanga asana practice is a physically intense series and finding softness and lightness on the mat is key to a safe and fulfilling practice. I encourage students not to push too hard. A calm and serene mind is more important than a fancy pose.

Welcome to this course.
